After just a six-year run, Aston Martin's DBS will be replaced by a new range topper that will resurrect the Vanquish name and will be built off the fourth generation of the British automaker's innovative VH platform. The new car, available in either 2-seat or 2+2 configurations, is longer, taller and wider than the DBS and incorporates styling elements first seen on the One-77 supercar.

The familiar Aston Martin grille is set in a much more aggressive front fascia that includes a carbon-fiber splitter. The body features flowing character lines and more pronounced rear DBS replacement takes cues from One-77 fender forms that add to the car's muscular shape. Carbon fiber is also used on the stepped side sills and rear diffuser. The greenhouse has a sleeker look with the rear quarter windows tucked in, further accentuating the width of the Vanquish's rear haunches.

While the VH platform retains its aluminum/composite structure boasting 30-percent greater torsional stiffness than the DBS, the body panels of the Vanquish are made entirely of carbon fiber, which is accented by the use of chrome side strakes and window surrounds, enameled badging and an aluminum grille.

Inside, the interior has the Aston's traditional twin cockpit styling, with a large waterfall center stack design and steering wheel adapted from the One-77. The touchscreen uses the same technology as mobile phone-inspired haptic feedback on a glass surface. The information, navigation and entertainment systems, which feature Bang & Olufsen components and speakers, have also been adapted from Aston's limited-run supercar.

Beneath the hood, the 6.0-liter V-12 has been upgraded with larger throttle bodies, better intake manifold airflow, dual variable valve timing and a higher volume fuel pump that helps to boost output to 565 bhp. The Vanquish is equipped with a 6-speed Touchtronic II single-clutch paddle-shift gearbox with 37-percent quicker shifts in Sport mode. The stability control system has three modes, Normal, Sport and Track, which remap transmission shift points, throttle tip-in and steering feel. The steering ratio has also been revamped to a 15:1 ratio for sharper turn-in, while the carbon-ceramic brakes have been improved to provide shorter stopping distances with less brake noise. The all-new Vanquish is also the first Aston Martin to offer launch control.
The car is expected to go on sale in early 2013 with pricing similar to the current DBS, which is just under $300,000.
